I bought one new in my junior year of high school in 1971 with a 4 x 12 matching speaker cab, $600. It was bullet proof and I did everything I could to overdrive it. It was very very loud, to loud for clubs but high school gyms it was perfect. So after 2 years of blowing my ears out sitting 2 feet in front of it, just to day I got fitted for my third set of hearing aids...true story. Party on and take care of your ears.

Atomic has always made some really solid gear. Thoughts on the suspiciously similar NU>X Amp Academy unit going for a mere $200 clams? The fact that is has an FX loop & 3rd party IR functionality within that price it mighty tempting. Not gonna lie... Also, the NU>X software GUI honestly doesn't look that half bad IMO. Working tone is in the ear of the beer holder.🙃 Ha! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a pair of Peavey Classic 50 heads.....they sound great but are not the easiest amps to work on if you need to replace caps etc. Also, some have fans that are quite loud. One of my amps had a loud fan, and the other was quiet....I replaced the loud one with a Noctua NF-A8 ULN 80mm premium fan than runs on DC voltage (stock fans run on AC current).I used a 15v DC power supply to power the fan. I attached the wires supplying AC current to the original fan, to the DC power supply which I had mounted inside the cabinet. One other thing.....the Classic 50 takes pedals extremely well.

Vovox is my choice.

I am clinically a habitual over thinker so pardon me if I'm completely getting this wrong here, or overlooking something within IK's specs, but I've always been led to believe that it was technically problematic getting two DSP units (identical or not) to run properly in phase? Basically do to inherently individual RTL timings (round trip latency). Is that no longer a thing? Thanks in advance! Also, yes... I am totally an uber goober nerd. Ha! Cheers!

I bought one last week, got rid of my irig HD, replaced it with an Axe I/O Solo and bought Ilouds to replace my presonus monitors. I’m in a small apartment so space matters, but the tones I’m getting now are so much more inspiring and the ilouds are unbelievable! Ty for sharing my man, please capture that new Bad Cat Jet Black you had in that one video. That was a GREAT SONG and killer tone!

Essentially, this makes older modelers of the last 20 years, serviceable again. Overdrives of older modelers were lacking, but effects were usually good, now with this, it puts older modelers back in the game. 👍

I remember at NAMM a few decades ago where the Metaltronix and Laney booths were next to each other. The Metaltronix amps DESTROYED the Laneys. I actually felt bad for the Laney guys.

That is the holy grail of rock right there. Does Dave Friedman's new Plex get close to that? I know his is a 50 watt, but still...

It's right on that edge between where I like it and it's too thick and woolly in the bass region. I like the bass to be a bit more controlled yet I also don't like thin and wiry in the treble. I think I could work with this amp. It sounds a lot like my '69 Plexi.

I just looked up Mogami Gold instrument cable and it lists as 130 pf/m versus the La Grange 65 pf/m.

I don't understand why something like this isn't used much more in pro studios and it's considered just a toy for home practicing even by casuals... In the 80's they used that real toy of the Scholz Rockman directly in the mixer...and also the Ada mp1, the Marshall jmp1 and the Gk 250ml. This Friedman with a good cab or impulse is every bit as good and legit; also, it doesn't have tubes, so no extra maintenance.

Sounds good but..I want a warmer thicker sound.

Love your playing and demo vids. Question - how's it sound if you disable the IRs (on the IR-X, just hold down Channel 1 switch for a few seconds) ? One of the ways I want to use it is as a preamp without the cab sims.

I just got mine today. It's the bomb. I had a 66 deluxe reverb for cleanish and dimed supro thunderbolt (65) for dirt today at practice. Ran it direct in and sounded incredible. Game changer....

The Rat is his percussive muting effect that sets him apart from everyone else. If you don't have the Rat, you don't get his sound. Rat with distortion on 1, Level on 10, pushing a Marshall stack. There's a guy further down in the comments that saw Nuno's rig and basically lists what he uses.

*Wow, I genuinely recognize it in a lot of old recordings.* I haven't read about these in years to have even remembered what they do without watching your video. I can understand this one fading out of popularity, *but the exciters had such amazing potential for the ultimate tube simulation circuitry.* A sophisticated exciter allowing you to hand select harmonic frequencies and set their magnitude coupled with a sophisticated EQ would enable us to produce an exact harmonic fingerprint of every tube amp and it's preamp tubes on earth. Digital emulation is currently so good though, there's no incentive to revive the technology granted for vocals and other instruments it could still be quite valuable.

Using this ...does going with different ranges of 12AX7 tubes still give noticable change? Like going from a standard JJ to say a pair of Mullards orTung Sol tubes add even more gain? ...i guess im asking is it tunable in a sense with preamp tube selection?

To Michael: I have a PS100(which I love) HOWEVER:: I was wondering If the cyclops in ANY way solves the problem of Not being able to hear the Effects in the effects loop in the outgoing "line out" (either balanced or unbalanced) that goes to the DAW. You stated that the "effects loop" is AFTER the "line out" Thereby nullifying any effects in the loop. So the only way I can see around this is: Going from the "Balanced line out into the input of the effects chain...then from the effects chain out, into the DAW...Is that about it???

Oh man. This is a rabbit hole I don’t want (and can’t afford) to go down! What next - swapping out all the patch cables on your board?! Crazy the difference between the cheap Fender cable and the others. For the record I have MXR cables that were about £15 each, and EBS HP patch cables. No complaints.

Good comparison, the QC definitely sounded brighter and a bit more fuzziness to the tone. It’s gonna be interesting to see if you boost the gain and put some post EQ on the Ampero

These things are insanely expensive. Plug a Hafler Hellrazor into the front of a 2204 and you can get everything from rich cleans to scorching metal and save a few grand. Sims are for kids, people who don't know better or are too lazy to lug around a good tube amp. If you can't afford a 2204 there are plenty of less expensive tube amps available, like Peavey VTMs and Music Man HD130s, even though they're ss preamps they're epic. Since you can't find any Haflers anymore it's ok to reveal tone wise they're the best bang for the buck ever. BTW, after listening to these I've heard better in my practice room. Don't waste your money, learn to listen. It will serve you well and throughout your life.

The DUTCH is definitely the best of the two.
